A private aircraft crash-landed on a highway in Laredo, Texas, on Tuesday night, leaving one person dead and five others injured after the plane overturned and burst into flames, according to local authorities.
Officials said the incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. when the aircraft came down on a roadway, triggering a large emergency response. The plane was found upside down and fully engulfed in fire when first responders arrived at the scene.
Video circulating on social media showed the burning wreckage on the highway as emergency crews and bystanders rushed toward the aircraft in an effort to assist those trapped inside. Responders worked quickly to extinguish the flames and remove passengers from the wreckage.
Laredo Police Public Information Officer Jose Baeza confirmed that six people were on board at the time of the crash. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining five survivors were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities said all five survivors were reported to be in stable condition.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the incident, securing the area and closing sections of the highway while rescue and recovery operations were carried out. Officials have not yet released the identities of those involved, pending notification of family members.
At this stage, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities said aviation investigators are expected to examine the wreckage and review flight data to determine what led to the emergency landing and subsequent fire.
