Trump House Owner Critically Injured in Alleged Assault Outside California Home

Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old Southern California Army veteran known for his heavily decorated “Trump House,” remains in critical condition following a violent assault outside his Escondido home.

Escondido police responded around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday to reports of an assault near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, where officers found Sheron suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to a trauma center and admitted to an intensive care unit.

A utility worker who reportedly witnessed the confrontation intervened and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived. The bystander was also injured during the incident, according to authorities.

Sheron’s wife, Maria Garcia, has expressed grave concern about his condition, telling reporters that she does not expect him to survive. She also raised concerns that the attack could have been motivated by hostility toward the political messages displayed prominently at their home.

The property, widely known as the “Trump House,” has attracted attention for years because of its American flags, patriotic decorations and pro-President Donald Trump displays. The home has become a recognizable landmark in the community and has drawn both supporters and critics.

Police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler following the incident. He has been charged with attempted murder and is being held at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County, according to reports.

Investigators have not publicly established a motive for the alleged attack. While Sheron’s family has raised the possibility of political hostility, authorities have not confirmed that politics played a role.

A friend of Butler separately told media outlets that the suspect is a Navy veteran who has experienced serious mental-health difficulties. The friend described Butler as increasingly paranoid and unstable and said his condition had reportedly deteriorated in recent months. Those claims have not been independently verified by authorities.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain under investigation, including what led to the encounter and whether any prior relationship existed between the men.

The incident has nevertheless prompted immediate political reaction. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., called for a “full and immediate investigation” and argued that supporters of Trump have increasingly faced political violence.

Sheron’s case has also renewed attention on the risks faced by highly visible political figures and private citizens who prominently display partisan messages.

For his family, however, the political debate remains secondary to his medical condition. Sheron is continuing to receive intensive medical care as relatives and friends await further updates.

Authorities are expected to provide additional information as the investigation progresses and Butler’s case moves through the court system.

For now, the veteran celebrated by supporters for his patriotic displays remains hospitalized in critical condition, while investigators work to determine exactly what led to the violent confrontation.
