‘Big Update In The Los Angeles Mayor’s Race.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has secured a spot in the November runoff, and progressive City Council member Nithya Raman appears poised to join her after overtaking reality television personality Spencer Pratt for the second position.

With approximately 93 percent of votes counted, Raman held 28.6 percent compared to Pratt’s 25.8 percent, according to the Associated Press on Monday night. Bass led the overall race with 34.7 percent of the vote as mail-in ballots continued to be processed.

The Race Tightens

Raman’s advantage has fluctuated as late-arriving votes were tabulated, narrowing what was once a larger gap. The difference between Raman and Pratt stood at approximately 3,000 votes, a margin that could shift as counting continues.

A University of California Berkeley-Los Angeles Times poll conducted before election day showed Bass at 26 percent, Raman at 25 percent, and Pratt at 22 percent-all within the survey’s margin of error. The same poll indicated that in a potential head-to-head runoff, Raman would lead Bass 32 percent to 28 percent among registered voters.

What The Numbers Show

Prediction markets have adjusted odds based on the current tally. Kalshi gives Bass a 59 percent chance of winning the general election, Raman 40 percent, and Pratt 1 percent.

Polymarket shows slightly different odds, with Bass at 56 percent, Raman at 41 percent, and Pratt at 1 percent. Both platforms reflect uncertainty about how different matchups would perform in the general election.

Candidate Platforms

Raman, a progressive city council member, has focused on housing policy and homelessness reform during her campaign. Pratt entered the race as a political outsider and Republican, emphasizing public safety and criticizing Bass’s response to the Palisades wildfire that destroyed his home.
